Sambar sadam is the receipe which is famous in south India. There are many methods of doing it. Now in this iam going to show the one pot method which is very easy,time consuming and healthy too.In this usually they add lot of country veggies like drumstick,brinjal, pumpkin,and so on.
Now i have added very little veggies because i dint have much veggies due to this covid-19 pandemic situation.
INGREDIENTS
Rice - 1 cup
Toor dhal - 3/4 cup
Shallots (small onions ) - 10 to 15
Tomato - 1 (medium size)
Drumstick - 1
Carrot -1 (medium size)
Capsicum - 1/2
Potato -1(medium size)
Chow chow - 1/2
Garlic (crushed) - 4 pods
Sambar powder - 1 tbsp
Tamarind juice (thick ) - 1/4 cup
Coriander leaves (finely chopped) -2 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Ghee - 1 tbsp
TO TEMPER
Oil (any oil)- 2 tbsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 strand
PROCEDURE
- Wash the rice and dhal and soak for half an hour
- Heat oil in a cooker add in mustard seeds.
- Once mustard splutter add in curry leaves.
- Add in shallots and saute for 2 to3 mins.
- Now add in chopped tomatoes saute till it becomes mushy.
- Now add in all the veggies and saute well .
- Add in salt ,sambar powder and saute till raw smell goes off .
- Add in tamarind juice .
- Now add in water ( water should be 1/2 cup more than what we use for normal rice).
- Once boiled add the soaked rice and dhal.
- Let it boil nicely finally add in chopped coriander leaves.
- Close the cooker keep it for 3 to 4 whistles.
- Open the lid once the pressure is released completely .
- Add in a 1 tbsp of ghee and give a good mix.
- Now sambar sadam is ready to serve
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
- It can be served with potato chips, appalam, vadams, vathals,etc..,

Add in required amount of water
Add in salt and allow it to boil nicely
Add in soaked rice and dhal
Add in coriander leaves and close the cooker and leave it for 3 to 4 whistles.
Once the pressure releases open the lid and add ghee and give a good mix.
Serve hot with vathal, vadams, appalam, potato chips , etc..,
